Good Practices
AALSIM promotes practical good practices to support a more professional, transparent, safe, and responsible short-term rental sector in Mauritius. These guidelines are intended to complement, not replace, the legal and regulatory obligations applicable to operators.
The objective is to help members improve service quality, guest safety, transparency, responsible hosting, environmental awareness, and respect for local communities.
Professional Hosting
Operators should provide accurate listing information, clear pricing, reliable guest communication, and a professional arrival and departure experience. Guests should receive practical information about the property, emergency contacts, house rules, local services, and responsible behaviour during their stay.
Guest Safety
Members are encouraged to maintain appropriate safety measures, including clear emergency contacts, functional locks, safe electrical installations, basic first-aid information, fire safety equipment where applicable, and proper maintenance of facilities.
Transparency
Listings and communications should accurately describe the property, its location, facilities, services, rules, and any limitations. Misleading descriptions, hidden charges, or unclear cancellation conditions should be avoided.
Responsible Tourism
Operators should encourage guests to respect local communities, minimise waste, use water and energy responsibly, support local businesses, and behave responsibly in natural and cultural areas.
Environmental Awareness
Members are encouraged to adopt practical measures such as water-saving practices, energy efficiency, waste separation where available, reduced single-use plastics, responsible purchasing, and better guest awareness on environmental protection.
Fair Competition
AALSIM supports a fair and transparent operating environment where all operators are encouraged to formalise their activities, comply with applicable obligations, and contribute to the professional reputation of the sector.
