ABOUT
President’s Message
“Short-term rentals are now a structural pillar of Mauritian tourism.”
Short-term rentals and non-hotel accommodation now play an essential role in Mauritius’ tourism ecosystem. Villas, apartments, tourist residences, guest houses, agencies, tourist accommodation managers and independent operators respond to a growing demand for stays that are more flexible, longer, more immersive and more closely connected to the local economy.
In 2025, AALSIM reached a decisive milestone in its structuring and institutional recognition. The association now represents a sector that makes a strong contribution to the national tourism economy, with an estimated direct impact of around Rs 20 billion, a capacity estimated at nearly 20,000 rooms, and a growing role in channelling tourist spending towards SMEs, shops, transport operators, restaurants and local service providers. Our priority is clear: to support the professionalisation of the sector, encourage the formalisation of informal operators, promote simpler and more proportionate regulation, defend fair taxation and strengthen the visibility of non-hotel accommodation within the national tourism strategy.
AALSIM works closely with the authorities and industry stakeholders to progressively move from a rigid licensing model to a more agile system based on registration, transparency, visitor safety, service quality and tax fairness.
With the establishment of a permanent office, the appointment of a General Manager and the election of a new Executive Committee in 2026, AALSIM is entering a new phase. Our ambition is to make the association a professional, credible and constructive platform, capable of representing its members, producing reliable data, supporting the necessary reforms and fully contributing to a more modern, inclusive and sustainable Mauritian tourism industry.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, I invite all serious operators in the sector to join AALSIM and actively participate in this collective momentum.
